Constellation
What happens in a Constellation session?
Constellation is a therapeutic method that helps reveal and resolve hidden dynamics within families or systems that may be affecting your life today. These dynamics often operate unconsciously and can show up as recurring struggles, patterns, or difficulties in relationships, health, or career.
In a Group Family or Systemic Constellation
The Client
Brings a specific issue, challenge, or question to explore—for example: relationship difficulties, repeating family patterns, health concerns, financial challenges, work-related struggles, or feelings of being “stuck.”
The facilitator (Muppe) will ask a few clarifying questions (either privately ahead of the constellation or briefly in front of the group, depending on the client’s preference). The client then chooses group members to serve as representatives for family members, aspects of the issue, or even abstract elements such as “fear,” “health,” “income,” or “relocation.”
The Representatives
Stand in the center of the room representing people, aspects, or elements within the client’s field. As they step into these roles, representatives may begin to sense emotions, impulses, or physical sensations connected to the position they are embodying. They do not need any prior knowledge of the client or the issue—only openness and willingness to truthfully share what arises.
The Process
Guided by the facilitator, the constellation unfolds through movement, dialogue, and awareness. Hidden dynamics within the family or system gradually come to light. Often, new perspectives and healing movements emerge—such as recognition, release, reconciliation, or the reordering of relationships and dynamics within the system.
In a One-on-One Constellation Session
Instead of live representatives, objects (such as figurines, papers on the floor, or other symbols) are used to represent family members or elements.
The client themselves may physically step into different positions, experiencing the perspectives and feelings of each.
The facilitator helps the client tune into sensations, emotions, and insights as the constellation unfolds, guiding toward clarity, release, and resolution.
This format is highly effective and can feel very personal, as the client is directly engaging with the constellation themselves.
What to Expect as a Constellation Client
As a constellation client, you have the option to share openly with the group what you would like to work on and set up in your constellation. For privacy reasons, you may also choose to set it up “blindly”—meaning only you and the facilitator know the issue—or even “double blind,” where only you know what you are setting up. In this case, you choose elements such as yourself and the issue without needing to share details with anyone else.
The information that emerges through the field is accurate and powerful regardless of which format you choose. Sessions are guided safely and respectfully, and you participate only as much as feels comfortable. Many clients leave with a profound sense of relief, clarity, or a new perspective—often feeling lighter, more resourced, and more at peace.
What to Expect as a Representative
No prior experience is required—only openness, curiosity, and a willingness to notice honestly what arises in your body and emotions.
When representing, you may experience emotions, impulses, physical sensations, or thoughts connected to the role you are standing in for. You remain fully yourself while simply reporting what you perceive as you stand in that field.
At the close of every session, the facilitator guides a thorough process of disconnection, so each representative fully steps out of the role and returns to themselves.
Many find that serving as a representative not only supports the client but also offers unexpected insights, release, and healing for their own life.
